Candle Spell to Unite and Heal the Collective

Hello lovelies,

I know this is a difficult time for everyone on this planet, and it doesn’t seem like anything is going right. People are afraid, some are angry, others are simply so overwhelmed they don’t know what they are feeling, and more still have just shut down. I am here to say I hear you, I see you, I feel you, and I understand you. Each and every one of you, and I hope you can see, feel, hear, and understand each other too. This is truly a turning point for the human race as one people, and though this is a difficult time, know that there is good coming out of this, even if you aren’t hearing about it. What we do causes ripples far beyond what we could ever see with our own eyes in this lifetime, but the impact is still significant. As we try to stay calm and figure things out for ourselves as individuals, let us not forget the collective.

Since Ostara is this weekend I had been planning to post a broom blessing ritual to get everyone in the mood for some good old fashioned spring cleaning, but I realize that can be posted later, what we need now is something simple that we can all do, no matter where we are or what is happening. This is a simple ritual that can – and I hope will – be done often throughout this situation by as many people as possible. All you will need is a candle, oil for anointing (completely optional), a candleholder, something to write on the candle with or a piece of paper and pen to put under the candleholder, and a cup of your favorite tea, or other beverage of choice.

Once you have gathered all of your supplies, settle down by a window with the coverings open and relax into where you are sitting. Take the candle in your hands and rub it like you are making a coil out of clay to charge it with whatever energy you wish to send out into the universe. Carve whatever you wish into the candle and anoint it with oil from the bottom of the candle to the top and light it. Focus on the reflection of the flame in the window and imagine someone seeing it from a mile away. If you want to say something please do so, magic is always strongest when it comes from the heart of the individual practitioner, if you find that you are having trouble thinking of what to say, you can say this:

This candle is a beacon, and from this candle more beacons shall be lit. From one flame infinite flames ignite. This is the light of hope, the light of justice, the light of peace, the light of dignity, the light of strength, the light of protection. As this flame burns, I release fear back to Nature, and I give courage, peace, and unconditional love to the collective spirit of the Earth. This candle is a beacon, a sacred flame to breathe new hope into the world from it’s light. I shall be the steward of the flame. When this flame has run its course, I shall carry the spark of it within my heart and spread it to those who need it.

After reciting the incantation – either of your own making or the one above – sit back, focus on the flame, either as a meditation or to scry in, and drink your tea. Once you have finished your tea, if the candle is still burning, you can either let the candle burn down the rest of the way, snuff it out with a snuffer, pinch it out with your fingers, or blow it out with intention. This spell can be done at any time. If you want to follow the moon phases, do so, but that is not necessary for this spell as it is about giving as much as it is about receiving so it can be done under any phase of the moon.

At this time, I would also like to remind everyone to practice social distancing, proper handwashing, and to use common sense when it comes to how we are moving throughout our day to day lives. If you don’t need to go out, please stay at home. If you do have to go out, either to work or to buy necessities, please be mindful and generous to others who are also trying to buy their necessities and go to their jobs.
